Feadship is a yacht building company that was founded when the Akerboom family, the Van Lent family and the De Vries family combined their shipyards in 1949. The Akerbooms started with a small shipyard in 1877 in the Netherlands and joined the Van Lent family in 1927. The three families joined after World War II to sell to American buyers. Feadship actually stands for First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders.
Feadship officially launched its line of yachts at the New York Boat Show in 1951 with great success. It began producing steel yachts exclusively in the mid ‘50s and the size of its yachts continuously grew. Clients included Henry Ford and Malcolm Forbes, who were known for their luxurious and lavish purchases. By the 1960s, Feadship went through a series of mergers which resulted in three shipyards.
Today, Feadship produces about 5 megayachts per year and is a leader is the yacht manufacturing industry.
