Johnny hales from the frigid north country of Syracuse, NY. He graduated from Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY & Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire. He then did a two-year stint hopping between the European Alps as ski instructor and the Caribbean Islands as a water sports instructor with Club Med, which helped cultivate his language skills, as well as his ability to adapt to varying cultural environments.
He has always gravitated to the mountains and water, having a great knack for boating. His experience started at a young age on Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, cruising the waters from the inland lakes of the North, up and down the Eastern Seaboard, Mediterranean and the Caribbean seas. Johnny has seen more than most and brings to the table a first-hand, well-rounded experience of education, seamanship and people skills - essential in putting buyers and sellers together, in a fair and competent way. He's often been quoted "God gave us two ears and one mouth," which means we should do twice the listening and half the talking on behalf of our clientele.
Johnny shared time with his brother, Pete, at Woods & Oviatt when they opened their doors back in 1974. He then branched off and started J. Woods Marine Group in 1989. Now after 40 plus years in the industry, he has come full circle and re-joined Pete, and his two sons Ryan & Matt, here at Woods & Associates Yacht Brokerage - known to be a really fun and entertaining atmosphere to do business, whether buying or selling.
Johnny has three great kids & a granddaughter: daughter Jessica (hair dresser), and sons, Will (an accomplished Marine Tech.) and Sean (entering grad school for his Doctoral in Physiology at the University of Colorado) ...what a handful! His other interests that keep him busy are traveling with Laurie, his significant other. Johnny is an accomplished pilot & loves to fly, escape to their home in Colorado to ski, and watch the professional sports teams of South Florida.
