Fun Ways to Enjoy the Florida Keys

With the Florida Keys being just a short cruise south of Miami and filled to the brim with things to do, sights to see, and places to pay a visit to, it’s no wonder crowds of people make their way there every single day. From exploring state parks to heading into the warm turquoise waters, the options of activities seem nearly endless. Though there are dozens of them, the following are just some of the top things to do while you find yourself in the beautiful Florida Keys.

Go Fishing

Known as the sport fishing capitol of the world, this is an absolute must when heading to the Keys. Whether you want to deep sea, reef, or fly fish on the waters, the choice is up to you. There are numerous charter options and tours that can take you, your friends or whole family out and spend a day trying to reel in the big catch of the day. No matter what type of fishing you would like to try or what type of boat you would like to head out on, the options are vast and plenty; perfect for a great day full of sunshine and the open water during your visit to the Florida Keys.

Snorkeling & Scuba Diving

Being home to the only living coral barrier reef in the entire continental United States, you truly cannot go wrong when deciding to dive into the beautifully teeming waters of the Florida Keys. From wreck diving to reef snorkeling, each one is an adventure in and of itself and is sure to be something you will remember for years to come. With so much to see and underwater places to explore, it’s no surprise to know that the Florida Keys are considered one of the best places to snorkel and scuba dive. A possible adding reason to this may just be that the country’s first underwater park, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is located here and proves to be an incredible adventure of a lifetime being able to snorkel and dive in such an amazing area.

Glass Bottom Boat Rides

If you’re not too keen on actually jumping into the waters quite yet, consider going for a fun glass bottom boat ride. All you need to do is sit back, relax and watch as the boat passes over beautiful reefs and an assortment of colorful marine life. Plenty of tours are available and ready to take you out for a day of being able to gaze upon some of the most beautiful parts of the keys.

 

Visit the State Parks

The Florida Keys are home to some incredible and award winning state parks, all different and offering something exciting and unique compared to the next. Consider first making your way to Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park where you will find over 84 completely protected and rare animal species. Next, head to Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park where you can walk along the eight-foot-high quarry walls that the park is known for. Lastly, you can hop on a canoe or kayak and explore Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park and soak up the sun and beauty that exhibits its every inch.

For the more adventurous type looking for excitement, have a true thrill while taking up kite boarding or wake surfing. With just the right weather and pristine waters, the Florida Keys are the perfect place to try both water sports and find out if you’ve just discovered a new talent or two! Parasailing

Sure, it’s fun to be in the water or on a boat up close and personal with the marine life, but how about a breathtaking view from the top? Parasailing is the perfect option if you want to take in the beauty of the waters beneath and experience a peaceful yet exciting opportunity.
